At only about 6 kilometres away, Galle is a fifteen-minute drive from Unawatuna, which makes it the easiest and most popular trip we run. At its heart is Galle Fort, a remarkably preserved 16th-century fortress built by the Portuguese and expanded by the Dutch. Inside the ramparts you will find cobbled lanes lined with galleries, jewellers, and cafés, the landmark lighthouse, historic churches, and sweeping views over the Indian Ocean.
Because it is so close, this route works however you like to travel. We can drop you at the fort's entrance and collect you later, or choose the wait-and-return option so your driver stays with you for the day. Many guests use us for an evening run to dinner inside the fort and a relaxed ride back afterwards — no need to negotiate a tuk-tuk in the dark.
Galle also makes a natural first stop on a longer south-coast day. Pair it with the Japanese Peace Pagoda above Unawatuna, the stilt fishermen at Koggala, or continue west to Hikkaduwa's reef. However you want to shape the day, we will handle the driving, the parking, and the timing so you can simply enjoy exploring.
